Through this partnership and other historical Subaru Loves to Help efforts, Subaru and retailers like us will have supported over 1 million children and adults in urgent need nationwide.
At Subaru, we believe what we leave behind is a reflection of who we are. That’s why Subaru and our retailers partner with the Arbor Day Foundation (TM) to provide and distribute 100,000 regionally appropriate trees across the country. We’re proud to establish the largest corporate tree distribution ever. Through this and other Subaru Loves the Earth initiatives, Subaru and our retailers have helped distribute and plant over 1.1 million trees.
Subaru believes we should all have a chance to lead a healthy life. That’s why for over 10 years, Subaru and its retailers like us have partnered with Blood Cancer United® and our local hospital to give warm blankets and encouraging messages of hope, written by our employees and customers, to support our community members living with cancer. Through our combined efforts during this partnership, we have supported over 550,000 cancer patients nationwide. Together, we are proud to be Blood Cancer United’s largest automotive donor.
Subaru and its retailers, like us, are continuing our support of education and high-needs schools in our communities through Subaru Loves Learning(R) by providing teachers across the country with funding to purchase the school supplies and resources they know are needed to help students thrive in the classroom. Through our partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org, Subaru and its retailers have supported more than 950,000 students nationwide and are proud to be their largest corporate supporter.
Subaru believes all pets deserve a loving home. That's why retailers like us partner with our local animal welfare organization every October to provide direct financial assistance through a grant distributed by the ASPCA® and host pet events to help animals find loving homes. Through our partnership with local and national organizations, Subaru has donated over $70 million, supporting the rescue, adoption, and health of over 700,000 animals. We're proud to be the largest corporate donor to the ASPCA.

This year, Kearny Mesa Subaru proudly partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation through the Subaru Loves the Earth initiative to help make a lasting impact in the San Diego community. There were 100 trees that were provided through this partnership which 95 were reserved by customers. These trees do more than beautify neighborhoods — they contribute to cleaner air, provide wildlife habitat, and help strengthen a healthier environment for future generations. Each tree planted represents our continued commitment to environmental stewardship and our belief that small actions can create meaningful change. Every customer who picked up a tree became part of this shared effort. Together, we are helping grow a community that understands caring for the environment also means caring for one another. Through Subaru Loves the Earth, Kearny Mesa Subaru is proud to support initiatives that bring people together while investing in a greener, healthier future for generations of San Diego and California residents.
At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to walk into their future with confidence. Thanks to the generosity of Subaru and their commitment to the Subaru Love Promise, more than 400 youth across our Clubs recently received brand new pairs of shoes. What might seem like a simple gift became a powerful moment of dignity, excitement, and care for the young people we serve. I have spent a lot of time with our kids, and over the years I have learned to recognize the signs when they are truly excited. First, they say thank you without being prompted. Second, they begin conversations with volunteers and feel comfortable enough to share personal details like how many siblings they have, whether they have pets, and the age old question, "Are you coming back to see us?" They dance with no music, spin and swirl across the gym floor, and share their excitement with their friends. When the Subaru team arrived with their volunteers, stationed, dressed, and ready with huge smiles to distribute more than 400 pairs of shoes, all of those things happened. The gym quickly filled with laughter and movement. One of our Club members proudly called his new shoes "Michel Jaxon shoes," spelled just like that, because he immediately challenged his friends to a moonwalk competition. Another girl held up her pair and exclaimed, "These shoes are the best ever." One of my favorite moments was watching the kids in complete shock when they realized that the two pairs of socks tucked inside the shoes were theirs to keep. It was a small surprise, but for many of our youth it meant everything. Seventy two percent of the young people we serve come from low income households, and many of the attendees who were bused in from another site rarely have the opportunity to receive essentials like these. A new pair of shoes may seem small, but for our kids it means being able to run, play, and participate with confidence. It means showing up to school feeling proud of what they are wearing. It means feeling cared for by the community around them. Through Subaru's partnership with Operation Warm, our youth not only received new shoes, but also experienced something even more meaningful. Subaru volunteers spent time talking with the kids, helping them find the right sizes, and celebrating with them as they tried on their new pairs. Those moments of connection are just as important as the shoes themselves. When caring adults show up, listen, and engage, it sends a powerful message to our youth that they matter. It is incredibly encouraging to see such a respected company give back to their local Boys & Girls Club and invest in the young people in their own community. The time Subaru's team spent with our youth was truly invaluable, and the smiles and laughter in the gym that day said it all. At Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, our mission is to inspire and enable young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. Partnerships like the one we share with Subaru help make that mission possible. Because of Subaru's generosity, more than 400 young people walked away with new shoes, warm socks, and a powerful reminder that their community believes in them. We are deeply grateful for this experience and for Subaru's continued commitment to making a difference.
With the help of a lot of kind and giving people from all over San Diego and Orange county, we were able to help spread holiday cheer to those in need by donating over 400 toys to the Marine Corps for their 2025 Toys for Tots drive. From all of us at the San Diego Humane Society, we are incredibly grateful for the generosity and community spirit shown by Kearny Mesa Subaru for covering the cost of all dog and puppy adoptions the weekend before Christmas. Thanks to this support, 96 dogs found loving homes in just two days, significantly more than we see on a typical weekend, and the impact was felt immediately throughout our shelters. We were especially touched when members of the Kearny Mesa Subaru team joined us at the shelter on Sunday, engaging with adopters and the public, and sharing in the joy of these life-changing moments. Seeing so many dogs leave with their new families reminded us how meaningful a forever home is not only for the people whose lives are enriched by a new companion, but for these deserving pets who now get to experience the love, safety, and happiness they have been waiting for.
Kearny Mesa Subaru partnered with The San Diego Human Society to "Share the Love" on December 20 and 21 by providing free adoptions for dogs and puppies at all of their San Diego County locations. Team Kearny Mesa Subaru helped 79 adult dogs and 17 puppies find the forever homes over the weekend. This was almost double the normal adoption rates for a weekend, making it a big success! Thank you to the loyal Kearny Mesa Subaru customers that made this possible. With every purchase, money is set aside for events like this. It's Kearny Mesa Subaru's way of giving back to the community.
Every fall, Fletcher Hills, Jamul and La Mesa Kiwanis host our annual Twilight Tasting Fundraiser. Kiwanis is the largest adult community service organization in the world whose motto is, ''Serving the Children of the World.'' Each community has different needs, and Kiwanis empowers members to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of children, such as fighting hunger, improving literacy and offering guidance. Our Kiwanis clubs use the money raised at this event to support local youth service leadership programs, provide scholarships for students at local schools and so much more! Our signature fundraiser could not have been more of a success this year and Kearny Mesa Subaru has always been a huge financial support. With the $1500 donated from Subaru, it also makes it possible for us to have continued service projects with Rady Children's Hospital, Wreaths Across America, Toys 4 Tots, Meals on Wheels etc. We hope to continue our ongoing relationship to make a difference in the world! In the last few years, Kearny Mesa Subaru has partnered with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and Scripps Green Hospital through the Subaru Loves to Care initiative. The partnership has involved delivering blankets, and messages of hope to cancer patients. The items were delivered to the Oncology staff at the hospital on July 1st, 2025, by Kearny Mesa Subaru for distribution to patients in treatment.
Imagine going without a coat, shoes, or even socks. For millions of children and adults experiencing homelessness and other urgent need situations across the country, even here in San Diego, this is a harsh reality. Helping others strengthens communities, which is why Kearny Mesa Subaru is partnering with Operation Warm®, a national nonprofit focused on connecting children with the resources they need to thrive. On July 27th, Kearny Mesa Subaru hosted a heartwarming kitten adoption event in collaboration with the San Diego Humane Society. Our dealership was transformed into a cozy haven for kittens and their potential adopters. The day was filled with excitement and joy as visitors interacted with the adorable kittens. Our team and the Humane Society volunteers were on hand to provide information and help match the kittens with their new families. In addition to the kittens, we also had a special guest—Kombucha, a charming dog with a vibrant tie-dye coat. Kombucha is still looking for her forever home, and she brought an extra dose of joy to the event. Her unique look and friendly demeanor captured the hearts of everyone who met her. The event was a fantastic success, showcasing our community’s support for animal welfare. If you missed the event, Kombucha and other pets are still available for adoption through the San Diego Humane Society. On June 4, the LLS San Diego Chapter and Kearny Mesa Subaru had the pleasure of delivering 80 blankets to Scripps Green Hospital as part of the Subaru Loves To Care Program. These comforting gifts were accompanied by personalized messages of hope written by customers and staff of Kearny Mesa Subaru. This incredible act of generosity was warmly received by the Scripps Green Hospital staff who were thrilled to distribute these comforting gifts to their patients. Many thanks to everyone at Kearny Mesa Subaru and Scripps Green Hospital, not only for a memorable day, but for supporting LLS' mission to cure blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Together with Subaru, we have reached more than 8,000 patients nationwide, and after this year, will have distributed over 230,000 blankets representing hope, love, and warmth to patients.

During the Subaru D3 Homeless Outreach event, the San Diego Humane Society made a significant impact by providing essential supplies to pet owners in need. Their backpacks, filled with items like pet food, collapsible bowls, leashes, blankets, and toys, were a hit among attendees, highlighting the crucial role pets play in the lives of homeless individuals. This initiative not only addressed practical needs but also fostered community support and empathy, showcasing the power of compassion in making a difference.
June 18th, we were able to come together with our Zone team to collaborate on an event for the residents at the safe sleep site in San Diego. Our team provided fresh clean clothing, hygiene kits, pets supplies, blankets, lunch and water bottles. It's not everyday that all our districts stores are able to get together to make a difference in our community, but when we are able to, we make sure it's for positive change!
Here at Kearny Mesa Subaru, we recently came together as a team to assemble 100 hygiene kits in anticipation of an upcoming D3 Homeless event. This initiative reflects our deep-rooted commitment to community service and our desire to support those facing adversity in our local area.

Alongside our dedicated customer base, we were able to make a substantial donation of $25,000 to assist Meals on Wheels San Diego in their vital work within the community.

Despite the wild weather, our SDHS Kitten Adoption Event at Kearny Mesa Subaru was a heartwarming success! It was incredible to see the community's dedication, with people braving the rain to adopt kittens. Surprisingly, five out of the six found forever homes during the event. And the last one? Adopted just ten minutes after being showcased again – talk about a happy ending! Most of our guests learned about the event through the San Diego Humane Society's "Event's Calendar," which made us especially proud to have played a role in facilitating these adoptions. Witnessing families connect with their new furry companions was a truly touching experience. This event reaffirmed our commitment to animal welfare and the power of community collaboration. We're grateful to everyone who participated, and we look forward to continuing to make a difference, one adoption at a time, here at Kearny Mesa Subaru.
At Kearny Mesa Subaru, community health is a priority. Our recent collaboration with the San Diego Blood Bank exemplifies this commitment. Staff and customers united in a blood drive, showcasing compassion and solidarity. Despite the brevity of the event, our pledge to support community health remains steadfast. We collected 13 units of blood for the Hospital, with 2 donors being first time donors. One thing we love about the San Diego Blood Bank is their ability to make giving blood accessible to the public. Together with the San Diego Blood Bank, we will continue to make a meaningful impact on lives.
We recently had the incredible opportunity to extend a helping hand to the community as part of our Subaru Loves to Help Initiative at Kearny Mesa Subaru. Partnering with the Clairemont Mesa Boys and Girls Club, we aimed to bring warmth and joy to the youth of San Diego by donating $10,000 worth of jackets, socks, and shoes. This initiative created not only a memorable experience for the children but also left a lasting impact on our team. The team at the Boys and Girl’s club welcomed us into their gym, where we were able to set up fitting stations for the jackets and the shoes. What made this event truly special was that our own staff were able to interact with the children! Team members of our retailer actively participated in fitting the children with their new jackets and shoes, creating a positive and engaging atmosphere. Beyond the material donations, the children felt a sense of care and attention from their community. A highlight of the day was the diverse selection of colors and sizes available for the children to choose from. We made sure each child had the opportunity to express their personal style and preferences. Needless to say, the children were all excited to be able to have their pick of styles. The peak of joy was reached when the children put on their new shoes and socks and playfully "skated" around the gym floor. Their laughter and delight echoed as they enjoyed the simple pleasure of having clean socks and well-fitted shoes. Our commitment to creating a positive impact in the community was evident in these priceless moments. Our coat, sock, and shoe fitting event at the Clairemont Mesa Boys and Girls Club stands as a testament to our commitment to corporate social responsibility and community engagement. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego recently partnered with Subaru Kearny Mesa and Operation Warm to bring over 400 sets of coats, shoes, and socks to our youth members across the county. The staff were a delight to work with - they wore their hearts on their sleeves and made the event a blast for the kids. There were several stories that we call "Mission Moments" that came from this event and I felt compelled to share one. We have a family, consisting of a mother and 2 children that are car bound and living in the local Walmart parking lot. It has been a tough year for the family, and they have struggled to obtain basic needs like housing and clothes. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego has become a safe haven for the two young kids, a place where they can go to feel safe and know they belong. In order for the Boys & Girls Club to create a safe and nurturing environment such as this, we rely on community partners, like Subaru, to help make our mission and impact possible. On the day of the event these two children, who had been showing up to the Club in shoes with detached soles and holes where their big toes belong, got outfitted with new gear to help make the winter weather more manageable. They couldn't believe the generosity and kindness our local Subaru friends showed them and were incredibly grateful for the assistance.
This year, our friends over at Meals On Wheels San Diego County decided to do something a little different this year for our Share the Love Collaboration event! For this year's event we opted for a holiday extravaganza! Santa was here to greet customers; we had a holiday card making station and a Christmas themed backdrop for photos, for lunch we brought in the food truck, Born in Brooklyn. We had a great turnout of staff and the public, coming together to support Meals on Wheels!
We are so proud to be able to consistently support our friends at the San Diego Humane Society! Most recently, we were able to present a check to the San Diego Humane Society in the amount of $23,850! We know that the San Diego Humane Society has plans for these funds to support our local pets, and their care. Our commitment to the animals under the care of the Humane Society is one that exemplifies our commitment to the Subaru Love Promise.
During our Holiday Adoption event at Kearny Mesa Subaru, our sales consultant, Sarah caught the eye of one of the dogs brought by the Humane Society, Pixie. Pixie is a shepherd mix, about 6 months old. She was brought in by a stray by the team at SDHS. Our friends at the Humane Society noted that she was shy, and that she would really need the perfect person to go home with. Kelly, the adoption events coordinator was surprised when Pixie was so drawn to Sarah, she immediately walked on a lead with her and was instantly bonded! Sarah, who is now a dog parent to two dogs, says that Pixie (now named Lucky), is fitting in well at home with her existing 3-legged pug! She is enjoying her homemade dog food, and the company of Sarah, who has made stability the new norm for Lucky!
This past Saturday, December 16th, Kearny Mesa Subaru welcomed the San Diego Humane Society to our lot for our annual winter adoption event! There were 3 adoptable dogs who were brought to meet their new families! There was even a holiday backdrop set up for customers and their furry family members to take holiday photos. This event is important to not only the public, but to our staff as well, many of our staff bring their own dogs to take holiday pictures in front of our showroom Subaru! The San Diego Humane Society has been a partner with us for many years now and we are proud to support them during our Share the Love Event. The Humane Society is so prevalent in our community, and their partnership is one that we greatly appreciate.

The event, held at Kearny Mesa Subaru's location, aimed to provide essential care and support for the beloved canine companions of San Diego. From 10 am to 4 pm, the dealership transformed into a hub of compassion, offering a myriad of services to ensure the well-being of the four-legged residents of San Diego. The highlight of the event was the provision of free vaccinations, ensuring that dogs received protection against common and preventable diseases. Veterinarians and trained staff from SDHS were on-site to administer these crucial shots, promoting a healthier and happier dog community. Flea prevention is a constant concern for pet owners, and Kearny Mesa Subaru, with the support of the ASPCA, generously provided free flea medication to attending pet parents. This proactive measure not only ensures the comfort of the dogs but also contributes to the overall health of the community. In addition to medical care, the event offered a delightful array of "dog swag" – a term coined for the generous distribution of toys, treats, and other goodies to our four-legged friends. The Subaru team went the extra mile to make the experience enjoyable for both the pets and their owners, creating an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie. Wellness exams were another essential service provided during the event. Experienced veterinarians conducted thorough check-ups, addressing any concerns or questions pet owners had about their furry family members. This comprehensive approach to care showcased Kearny Mesa Subaru's dedication to the holistic well-being of the community's dogs. Understanding that a dog's behavior is crucial to their overall happiness and the harmony of the household, Kearny Mesa Subaru brought in a specialized behavioral team. These experts were on hand to offer valuable advice and coaching to pet owners, addressing any behavioral issues and fostering a stronger bond between dogs and their families. The turnout exceeded all expectations, with hundreds of dogs and their owners benefiting from the event. Many received care on the spot, while others were provided with vouchers for future services at the San Diego Humane Society. The collaboration between Kearny Mesa Subaru, the ASPCA, and SDHS demonstrated the power of community partnerships in making a positive impact on the lives of our furry companions. As the event came to a close, the smiles on the faces of pet owners and the wagging tails of their dogs spoke volumes about the success of the day. Thanks to our friends at Kearny Mesa Subaru, 67 dogs found loving homes during a four-day adoption event across San Diego Humane Society’s campuses. The event culminated with National Make a Dog’s Day on October 22, and for one dog in particular, this day couldn’t have been sweeter! Shanks was brought in by Humane Officers after being struck by a car. In addition to internal injuries from the accident, he was also suffering from a fractured leg and nerve damage. After receiving lifesaving care that included a leg amputation surgery, Shanks was ready for his fresh start. And with the help of Subaru, Shanks got his second chance when he was adopted by a loving family during San Diego Humane Society’s reduced-fee adoption event! This sweet boy had his day made and then some — he’s now thriving in a home that will offer him all of the love, treats and care that he deserves. The San Diego Rescue Mission Homeless Shower event provides vital support to individuals experiencing homelessness, offering not only showers but also a sense of dignity and hope. On September 19th, we came together with our neighboring Subaru Retailers and hosted a shower event for those experiencing homelessness in San Diego County. Alongside the San Diego Rescue Mission, we hosted the San Diego Safe Sleep site residents in receiving a meal, free Subaru canteens, clean clothes and showers. Our staff took turns cleaning showers, handing out meals and filling water bottles. It was a great day full of positivity and friendship!

On August 18th, alongside our Subaru Ambassadors, Bre and Rosie from San Diego Subies, we were able to host an appreciation breakfast for our sponsored school, Ocean Beach Elementary. We brought Krispy Kreme Coffee and Donuts for 45 school staff members. Additionally, we were able to meet the teachers who received our sponsorship. This is our first event with the San Diego Subies Club and our first time collaborating with them on a Love Promise Activation. We look forward to joining forces more often!
On Friday 08/18/23, our team at Kearny Mesa Subaru was invited to join the Subaru West LAX Team in supporting their sponsorship of the Shelter to Soldier Be the Light Gala. It was a night full of amazing stories of veterans who have found their "heart dog" with the former shelter dogs given to them by Shelter to Soldier. This incredible non-profit finds dogs in shelters who have a very particular skillset and are suitable to be trained as therapy dogs for veterans in need of companionship. The event was full of the amazing dogs and their corresponding veterans who love them! Every day an average of 1800 dogs are euthanized nationwide, and every 69 minutes a U.S. Veteran commits suicide. Shelter to Solider are dedicated to connecting animals in need with one of our amazing veterans, saving two lives!

On Friday, August 4th, we were lucky enough to host the San Diego Blood Bank on our lot. Many team members and customers alike donated blood. Every donation was given a free Comic Con T Shirt! We are still waiting to see how many pints were donated, but regardless, we are so proud to be able to give back to those need such a precious resource!

We are overjoyed to share the heartwarming story of our beloved parts team member, Myriam, who recently adopted a precious kitten named Jack from the San Diego Humane Society adoption event. Myriam had been searching for the perfect companion to join her existing cat, Kiki, and fate brought Jack into her life. Everyday many animals are found in their native habits or in the city streets, injured or in need of assistance. The best place to take these creatures is to Project Wildlife, whose team of highly trained and skilled staff cares and rehabilitates these animals. Many of which are able to be safely re-introduced to the wild. During the work day, a good samaritan came by our retailer with a large collection of sheets and towels. He asked if we would be able to facilitate them being donated to Project Wildlife. Of course, we agreed, and we were happy to have been able to bring them by the facility today. So many animals in need are being taken wonderful care of by the Project Wildlife Team, and we could not be more thankful for the resources they have provided to our precious furry neighbors.

This donation can potentially save up to 60 lives! The blood drive was a huge success, and we couldn't have done it without the support of our amazing staff and community. We were thrilled to see so many people come out to donate blood and help save lives. As part of the Subaru Love Promise®, we believe in showing love and respect to all people. By hosting this blood drive, we were able to demonstrate that commitment and help those in need. We are grateful for the opportunity to make a difference, and we look forward to hosting another blood drive in the summertime. Spring has sprung here at Kearny Mesa Subaru. March 18th we hosted four adult dogs who are looking for forever homes! They got a nice break out of the shelter and we had the honor of hosting them!
This February we were thrilled to host a pet supply drive for the amazing patrons of the San Diego Humane Society Pet Pantry. The Pet Pantry is a fantastic effort to keep food and supplies stocked for those in need of a supplies for their furry family members!
On the February 9th, we were able to go and deliver 500 pairs of socks to the wonderful people at the Neil Good Day Center in San Diego. We were so fortunate to be able to greet everyone and hand out socks. We look forward to doing more with the Neil Good Day Center.
This year, Kearny Mesa Subaru is a proud drop off location for the San Diego Food bank. This month we filled 1 large bin full of food for those in need!
Every fall, Fletcher Hills and La Mesa Kiwanis host their annual Twilight Tasting Fundraiser. Kiwanis is the largest adult community service organization in the world whose motto is, ''Serving the Children of the World.'' Each community has different needs, and Kiwanis empowers members to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of children, such as fighting hunger, improving literacy and offering guidance. La Mesa and Fletcher Hills Kiwanis clubs use the money raised at their annual event to support their local youth service leadership programs, provide scholarships for students at local schools and so much more! The fundraiser could not have been more of a success this year and Kearny Mesa Subaru was grateful to be a part of it. Because we want to help these Kiwanis Clubs better serve their communities and the youth, we donated $1250 towards the event. We hope to continue to support these clubs and their efforts to their communities in the future! Kearney Mesa Subaru teamed up with Meals on Wheels San Diego County on 12/7/2022. Two staff members took time out of their busy day to deliver meals to seniors in need. They loaded up their vehicle with lunches and dinners to deliver to seniors in the area. While delivering, they were able to talk with our seniors and help brighten their day! Some of our seniors are isolated or homebound, and a visit from a volunteer is the only person they see all day. While visiting, they were also able to notate any client safety concerns in our mobile app. We so appreciate the help and support of Kearney Mesa Subaru!
Every Spring, our team hosts the Humane Society for a kitten adoption event at our dealership, and this year was no exception. This year a few of our employees took home cats!
Kearny Mesa Subaru is proud to spotlight a special dog in our community who is in need of a loving home. This quarter, we were privileged to be able to spotlight Viz, a shy but loving border collie mix with some physical limitations who are still waiting for the perfect home. He was the star of our pet accessory showcase during the fall, and we will continue to promote him until the end of this year!
On December 17th, we had the privilege of hosting the San Diego Humane Society for an Adoption event, 4 puppies and 1 senior dog found loving homes! Thank you, Subaru!
Every quarter, Kearny Mesa Subaru is proud to be able to submit a check to the San Diego Humane Society for all its efforts with our beloved pets! The check pictured in our last donation totaled $20,800!
In the midst of the holiday season, we are proud to be able to host not 1, but 2 donation boxes for the San Diego Humane Society. Customers can donate pet food, blankets, leashes, and collars to pet parents in need of a little extra help. Thank you, Subaru!
We are proud to be a verified distribution point for San Diego Food Bank. We have two donation bins set up in both our Sales showroom and Service center. We have gotten fantastic feedback from our community, within a day of having the bins out we almost filled one up! We look forward to continuing our partnership with the San Diego Food Bank! Kearny Mesa Subaru team and family were happy to join in on the San Diego Light the Night Walk. Survivors told their stories and then the entire night was lit by hundreds of lanterns, followed by a short walk to commemorate the occasion!

Thanks to Subaru’s support of San Diego Humane Society, animals like Roo know the promise of love — both in the shelter and when they are adopted! While many dogs found new homes in October, thanks to the adoption promotion sponsored by our friends at Subaru, one story is particularly special. Roo, a 9 month old German Shepperd mix, was brought into our San Diego Campus in August because her owner had sadly passed away and his remaining family was unable to keep her. But as fate would have it, we brought Roo to Kearny Mesa Subaru to meet their staff and guests in celebration of National Make a Dogs Day, and Joe Spurrier, the General Manager of KMS was so taken by Roo that he asked his wife to come and meet her. Two days later, Roo was officially a part of the loving Spurrier family, which includes two other dog siblings! Thanks to the support of Kearny Mesa Subaru and their fantastic staff, we not only found a new home for Roo, but for more than 1,800 animals across all of our campuses during the month of October. Thank you for helping us make all of these dogs’ days!
Over the years Kearny Mesa Subaru has dedicated time and money to supporting seniors across the county. Last years Share the Love was successful as ever even though we were still in the middle of the pandemic. They have consistently been there for us to ensure we have the best experience every year ensuring the Share the Love Event. We love Kearny Mesa Subaru and can't wait for this year and the years to come!
On June 6, in partnership with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Kearny Mesa Subaru donated 80 plush blankets to Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla. Here are a few words from Tim Collins, Scripps Green Hospital/LLS BOT Member, about how donation items like these blankets support the patients and hospital. “In a lot of different ways, one, it is a token that people on the outside are thinking about them, caring about them and supporting their journey. Two, it’s a nice soft feeling for people who are undergoing a lot of pain and sometimes having that soft comfortable velvety feeling on their face or on their skin makes their day. Gifts like this really help our patients and are uplifting. It could be a very bad day and a delivery of a blanket can just make their day and help them along their journey.” Scripps Green Hospital is known for the first liver transplant program in San Diego as well as one of the first stem cell transplant facilities in the nation. Kearny Mesa Subaru is one of the many Subaru retailers nationwide participating in the Subaru Loves to Care program. This program has allowed Subaru retailers across the U.S. to donate over 230,000 blankets and 31,000 arts and crafts kits, along with care, hope, and information about cancer support available through the LLS.
This past year, Kearny Mesa Subaru had selected San Diego Humane Society as our charity for our Share the Love event. Last week we were able to come to their beautiful new facility in San Diego, present the check, and tour the Project Wildlife building as well as the Behavioral Center! We loved seeing the happy animals, learning about their incredible care regimes and meeting all the amazing staff. Our team at Kearny Mesa Subaru can't wait to partner again for Share the Love and host our adoption events this year in conjunction with the San Diego Humane Society!
During the month of April, Subaru retailers across the country celebrate Subaru Loves the Earth and work hard to make our world a more sustainable place to live. To kick start the month, Kearny Mesa Subaru partnered with Grossmont Middle College High School’s Key Club to participate in a street clean up and were able to collect multiple bags of trash. If you are as passionate about preserving our environment as we are, please feel free to stop by our dealership to dispose of your hard-to-recycle waste (coffee cups, lids and straws, snack bag wrappers) in one of our green zero waste boxes. All waste collected gets recycled and made into products such as park benches, picnic tables, and playground materials.
"Last month Kearny Mesa Subaru had the joy attending the Kiwanis of Fletcher Hills 1st Annual Bike Rodeo. We were able to participate in the massive success of the Bike Rodeo, which focused on educating local children on the importance of bike safety. Bikes, helmets, and other bike accessories were raffled off during the event. Children and parents alike rode through an obstacle course and watched a demonstration on the importance of traffic signals, and safe bike riding practices. Kearny Mesa Subaru was thrilled to have been able to support and participate in such a successful and informative event hosted by the Kiwanis of Fletcher Hills. We wholeheartedly look forward to supporting next year's Bike Rodeo!"
Kearny Mesa Subaru in San Diego has been a consistent partner with Meals on Wheels San Diego for over 10 years. Every year, they go above and beyond to serve seniors across San Diego. Over the past two years, we have not been able to gather in person for our usual food truck event and yet Subaru still puts in just as much care and effort into trying to raise as much as they can for our clients. The team is always responsive, respectful, and helpful. Our partnership means the world to us and our seniors. We couldn't ask for a better team. Thanks to Subaru, Apollo the puppy spent the holidays in a new home! Our friends at Kearny Mesa Subaru hosted San Diego Humane Society for the Share the Love Holiday Pet Event in December with dog adoptions and free holiday photos, microchips and ID tags. The promise of love came to Apollo and his new family that day. Apollo was born in the shelter just eight weeks earlier. His mom gave birth to four puppies two days after she was rescued by our Humane Law Enforcement team as a stray. We kept this canine family together in a foster home long enough for the puppies to grow strong. With his two different colored eyes and soft, squishy brown fur, Apollo was the biggest of the litter — a pro at eating and playing! Our medical team gave him vaccinations to keep him healthy and once he was 8 weeks old, Apollo was neutered and ready for adoption. Because of our partnership with Subaru, a family adopted sweet Apollo. His dad works at Subaru and came on his day off to the Share the Love event. They had their first family photo with Apollo and their other dog before bringing their new puppy home in time for the holidays. Thanks to Subaru’s Love Promise in our community, we are connecting more families with pets who need homes.
This year we had the privilege of hosting a food drive with the San Diego Food Bank from 11/15 to 12/22. We wanted to partner with the San Diego Food Bank in particular because tens of thousands of low-income families rely on the Food Bank to put food on the table. Of the 350,000 people the Food Bank serves monthly, 39,000 are low-income military personnel and their dependents; 12,400 are fixed-income seniors; 91,000 live at or near poverty; and 3,300 are elementary schoolchildren. During the duration of the food drive, we were able to collect 2 bins full of donated food. If you or someone you know is interested in donating food, the Food Bank’s most needed items are: canned chicken and tuna, dry & canned beans, cereal, rice, nuts and seeds, peanut butter, canned soup, canned & dried fruit, canned vegetables, powdered milk and infant formula.
For National Make a Dog's Day, Kearny Mesa Subaru welcomed a very deserving underdog named Bronco. Subaru of America does amazing work helping pets at San Diego Humane Society find new homes — and Bronco is no exception! This sweet senior pit bull first arrived at our shelter in May of 2020 when his owner was working overseas and couldn’t keep him. Bronco is so friendly with people, he easily charmed all of our staff and volunteers with his love of pets, walks and treats. Our medical team found Bronco has a heart murmur, enlarged heart, skin allergies and dental disease. They started him on treatments, including medications and special baths, to make him more comfortable. They also spoke with potential adopters about the care he would continue to need. While in the shelter, our animal care team and volunteers kept Bronco entertained with both play time and lots of cuddles. He was also the special guest on many outings in the community, because of how much he loves people. Bronco developed separation anxiety in one home, where he became destructive when left alone, so our staff was ready with insights to set up Bronco for success in his next home. This 11-year-old needed a loving family ready to keep him healthy as he ages and help him learn to stay calm and happy during alone time. His trip to Kearny Mesa Subaru definitely made Bronco’s day, because he loves car rides and going on adventures. And the best part is that he was adopted soon after returning to the shelter! Thank you for making Bronco’s day by helping his new family find him. By giving animals like Bronco a second chance, Subaru is giving the promise of love to deserving pets. Thank you for helping Bronco get home just in time for the holidays!
On November 19th, Kearny Mesa Subaru delivered 80 blankets and 96 hygiene kits to the San Diego (Neil Good) Day Center. Our dealership was happy to participate in helping support those who are currently experiencing homelessness and look forward to partnering with the Day Center again in the near future. If you or someone you may know would also like to take the initiative to show support to the San Diego Day Center, they could always use donation items such as hygiene kits, undergarments, socks and belts.
On October 23rd, Kearny Mesa Subaru attended Fletcher Hills and La Mesa Kiwanis Club's Halloween fundraiser, Twilight Terror Tasting. Kiwanis is the largest adult community service organization in the world whose motto is, ''Serving the Children of the World.'' Today, they stand with more than 550,000 members from K-Kids to Key Club to Kiwanis and many ages in between in 80 countries and geographic areas. Each community has different needs, and Kiwanis empowers members to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of children, such as fighting hunger, improving literacy and offering guidance. Kiwanis clubs host nearly 150,000 service projects each year. La Mesa and Fletcher Hills Kiwanis clubs will be using the money raised at their event to support their local youth service leadership programs, provide scholarships for students at local schools and so much more! The fundraiser could not have been more of a success and Kearny Mesa Subaru was grateful to be a part of it. Because we wanted to help these Kiwanis Clubs better serve their communities and the youth, we donated $1000 towards the event. We also wanted to take the time to show our support by attending the event as well. In attendance were Francisco Quijas, Abe Ojeda, Victoria Garcia and Olivia Mercado. For the last 10 years, Kearny Mesa Subaru has supported and honored Meals on Wheels San Diego County in more ways than one. Our partnership is something we have cherished and enjoyed and we are very grateful for the opportunity to continue our relationship in years to come. Not only does Kearny Mesa Subaru honor us as a hometown charity, they work with our team to put on an incredible event each year. As many of us know, events have been non-existent over the last two years, which included out annual event we hold with Subaru in 2020. The team over at Kearny Mesa Subaru didn't let this obstacle stop them from supporting our seniors across San Diego County. Through all of the hard time we all had to face over the last year, seeing the support that came from our community and Subaru made it all worth it. Their support and the support from San Diego residents, we were able to reach the seniors who needed us most over the last 2 years. Thanks to Subaru’s support of San Diego Humane Society, animals like Cora know the promise of love — both in the shelter and when they are adopted! Cora, a beautiful Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, was brought to our Oceanside Campus by her previous owner, who was moving and could no longer keep her. When we got to know Cora, we could see she had plenty of love to go around, but needed some help managing her impulse control and reactivity to other dogs. Managing these behaviors would be the key to setting her up for success in a new home — so our trainers developed an individualized training plan and they, along with our animal care staff, worked with Cora daily. To further her training with a change in scenery, Cora entered our Behavior Center before she went to a special foster home where she could receive ongoing care. Because Cora is extremely treat-oriented and intelligent, our positive reinforcement approach made an incredible difference. Day after day, Cora improved. She showed calmer behaviors and more positive reactions to other animals. After more than six months in our care, she was finally ready to find a new family. We counseled potential adopters about Cora’s needs — including the importance of games of fetch and stuffed Kongs — as well as their needs for patience and consistency with her positive reinforcement training. With time and patience, we found a loving home for Cora. Overcoming behavioral challenges, like Cora’s, take time. It’s the support from friends like Subaru that makes their transformations possible — and gives deserving dogs like Cora a second chance.
Thanks to Subaru, Thor is in a new home this holiday season! We celebrated the second annual National Make a Dog's Day by promoting this 8-year-old underdog on social media, alongside our partners at Subaru and Kearny Mesa Subaru. Thor is a love bug with good looks, a sweet disposition and a very floppy tongue! In fact, we ended up calling him the Tongue Out Tuesday master. He was one of our harder-to adopt shelter dogs, especially because Thor doesn’t get along with most other dogs. He had been in our care for a couple of months and, through our partnership with Subaru, his adopter and her daughter saw him online and fell in love. Thor’s new family had lived with pit bulls before and knew they can be fantastic family companions. Thor had lived well with young children before and he is a cuddly coach potato. Thanks to Subaru for helping us ensure that Thor can live his best life with this new family!
During the summer, we here at Kearny Mesa Subaru conducted an Unsung Hero’s contest, where local residents could nominate an individual that they believe has gone above and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic. The winner would receive a FREE 3-year lease on a brand new 2020 Subaru Impreza! We had over 300 entries, making the winner a difficult decision to make. However, one nominee really stood out to us! We received a touching nomination for Susan Working by her colleague Beth that touched our hearts. Susan has worked at Grossmont College here in San Diego for 20 years educating students in their math department. This past year Susan has gone above and beyond to help students and her colleagues with the challenge of the transition to distance learning. We are sure many can relate that distant or virtual learning has been a struggle for students, parents, and teachers alike. Susan’s effort in making it a smooth transition has been greatly appreciated by the students and her colleagues at Grossmont College. Susan’s commitment to her students and colleagues is just the kind of love we value here at Kearny Mesa Subaru, and this is why we decided it was time to share the love with Susan by making her the winner of our Unsung Hero’s contest. On September 2, 2020 we got to meet Susan, her husband, and Beth who nominated her for the contest, and see the impact with our own eyes that this has for Susan! She was beyond stoked walking up and starting up her new car! She deserves this, and we are very happy to have been able to share this moment with her. It is moments like this, that we here at Kearny Mesa Subaru love to do… give back to the community and to those that unselfishly go out of their way to help others in our community. We know she is loving her New Impreza and we are thankful to have this opportunity to meet her and wish the best for Susan, her husband, and her colleague Beth.

The hospital staff was overjoyed to receive the items and shared how excited their patients would be to receive them. They knew one of their patients in particular, Marissa, would benefit from the warmth and love, hand-delivered by Teresa Daughty, David McCracken and the whole team from Subaru Kearny Mesa. Marissa was in the hospital being treated for Leukemia and was very appreciative for the visit. A college student, who had been dragged away from her college experience, the team quickly lifted her spirits and talked about their own college experiences – lots of laughter and in the brief time the Subaru team had to listen to Marissa’s story, the magic of the Subaru and LLS partnership unfolded. Marissa thanked her guests for making time out of their busy day to bring her warmth during her hardest days.
On June 25, 2018, the Kearny Mesa Subaru delivered 80 blankets and 25 art kits to Scripps La Jolla. The hospital staff was overjoyed to receive the items and shared how excited their patients would be to receive them. They knew one of their patients in particular, Connie, would benefit from the warmth and love hand-delivered by Teresa Daughty and David McCracken from Subaru. Connie was in the hospital recovering from bronchitis and awaiting her body to be healthy enough for a stem cell transplant. Last year, Connie was diagnosed with MDS. And this isn’t Connie’s first battle with cancer. Knowing this, the Subaru team suited up to enter the isolation unit. What everyone was unaware of at this time, was that Connie has also been a longtime LLS supporter – over 20 years to be exact, even before her first bout with cancer. Her involvement spans multiple Team in Training events including the Solvang Century Ride, America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride, the Yellowstone Half Marathon, and the Nike Women’s Marathon, to name a few. In the brief time the Subaru team had to listen to Connie’s story, the magic of the Subaru and LLS partnership unfolded. Through tears, Connie thanked her guests for making time out of their busy day to bring her warmth during her hardest days. At the same time, Connie’s commitment to LLS and fighting blood cancer was a true inspiration for Teresa and Dave. Since the delivery, Connie has returned home, and is receiving full-time care for MDS transitioned AML. She made sure to bring her Subaru blanket with her for the next part of her journey.
Here at Kearny Mesa Subaru, our General Manager and the rest of our team are sincerely dedicated to sharing the love here in our local community and seeking out as many ways we can help. This month we are excited to share another favorite of ours! The FACE Foundation, which was established in 2006 with the goal of preventing “economic euthanasia,” FACE, provides financial grants for San Diego pet owners who are unable to afford the cost of emergency veterinary care. Thus, saving the lives of pets and helping families hold onto their beloved pets as long as possible. They proudly work with over 130 Veterinary Hospitals in San Deigo to make this dream a reality. This past April 29, 2018 was their 8th Annual silent auction called Bags & Baubles. We were delighted to sponsor this event again this year, and donate $1000 to their cause. This fun silent auction is a bit different as they auction off “gently loved” Designer and Vegan handbags, as well as jewelry, sunglasses, and gorgeous accessories, as well as impressive men’s gear. This event is a great way to spend an afternoon with friends and family all while helping those families with pets that desperately need financial help with their emergency vet bills. Our general manager, Dave McCracken was honored to have been invited to the Canine Companions for Independence Graduation earlier this month! These dogs have been in training for over two years to assist people with disabilities with tasks such as opening doors, operating light switches, and retrieving dropped objects.These highly trained Labradors are provided at no cost to the individual in need of such a wonderful companion. We look forward to many more years of being apart of such a fantastic cause. We are honored to be able to support and congratulate these amazing canine companions!
Kearny Mesa Subaru has recently been turned on to Canine Companions for Independence. This non-profit organization enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing them with highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships. At no cost to the individual, they are provided trained Labradors that the organization has raised and trained since puppies. After researching about the lives that are significantly impacted by having such a companion, we could not pass up the opportunity to help in any way we can and were fortunate enough to become a sponsor for their DogFest Walk n/ Roll held at Liberty Station in San Diego this past October. This event is held to raise awareness and fundraising for the organization. We are pleased to say it was a great honor to participate in the event! It was amazing to meet many of the individuals who are paired with the labrador companions and see how it positively affects their everyday lives. The organization and their dedication to providing disabled individuals truly touched our hearts and we are happy to report Canine Companions for Independence raised just over $170,000 to aid in the care and training of these friendly companions. We now plan to remain a sponsor and can’t wait for next years DogFest! Here at Kearny Mesa Subaru, we are committed to the Subaru Love Promise. Our team is humbly grateful to have an 8-year relationship with the San Diego Humane Society. They reached out to us in 2009 to partner up for a Pet Adoption; subsequent events, donations, and volunteer programs have ensued. The Dealership employees have continued to be involved monthly and assist in helping San Diego’s homeless pet population receive medical care and a loving home. We hope our participation in promoting awareness to our local community will also manifest itself with other San Diegans thru volunteer work, donations, or adoptions. Kimbrough Elementary students are very grateful to have participated in the National Wild Life Federation/ Subaru grant. We planted native plants and plants that attracted butterflies (milkweed plant) that we were able to see the Monarch butterfly cycle. In our main garden we planted strawberries, herbs, corn, and cucumbers. Once again thank you for choosing our school!
San Diego Humane Society is grateful for the amazing partnership we have developed over the last seven years with Kearny Mesa Subaru. Not only have they raised more than $50,000 participating in the Share the Love campaign, with more than 30,000 during this past Share the Love campaign they have helped us find homes for many animals. Gracie, pictured here, was featured during our check presentation and received some TV time, in-house at Kearny Mesa Subaru, shared on Kearny Mesa Subaru social media and more! After 6 months in our care, we are happy to say she was recently adopted due to the hard work of everyone. Donations like this helped Gracie recover from surgery and chronic ear infections, as well as some serious skin issues. Thank you Kearny Mesa Subaru and your customer’s for all you do to aid in helping us care for all these loving animals and finding them loving homes.
Kearny Mesa Subaru really knows how to Share the Love and they do so from the bottom of their hearts! Everyone from the General Manager, to the Service Manager, the Sales Team, the Finance Team and all the Support Staff, really give their all in supporting Meals on Wheels’ efforts in making an impact in the community during the Share the Love nationwide campaign. On December 7th, 2016, they hosted a Food Truck challenge which brought approximately 400 hungry people to the dealership to enjoy gastronomical delights and vote for their favorite offering. Local celebrity judges also awarded the “Best Food Truck” trophy. The dealership helped to secure media coverage from radio and television stations and staff worked hard to clear the lot of cars, set up the event and even clean up afterward. Employees went on routes to meet local seniors and delivered meals with a hug and a smile. And, the Sales Team ensured that everyone knew how to vote for their favorite charity after a new car was leased or purchased. These efforts culminated in funds that will provide over 6,000 meals for local homebound seniors! Kearny Mesa Subaru has taken the time to understand the importance of keeping a homebound senior independent and safe in their own home, where they wish to be. They reflect what a “community partner” is all about; one that truly makes a difference. We thank each and every one of their employees for their caring and commitment to San Diego seniors in need.
From humble beginnings in 1960 with a few women deciding to deliver meals to their elderly neighbors, to serving nearly a half a million meals throughout the entire county today, Meals on Wheels is devoted to the health, safety and well-being of San Diego seniors. It is the only agency providing meals 7 days a week, including holidays. Additionally, they cover the entire county, including delivery into the over 3,049 square miles of rural and unincorporated areas. Distributing home-delivered meals and safety checks could not be accomplished without the help of their large and caring volunteer workforce who deliver meals with a hug and a smile and ensure our local home-bound seniors are well. This is why for the past 6 years, we here at Kearny Mesa Subaru are dedicated to helping this fantastic charity by hosting a Meals on Wheels Food Truck Event to bring awareness to the needs of our elderly. During this event, our employees partner up with Meals on Wheels volunteers to help deliver meals to our local elderly residents. Also, during this event, many local food trucks set up on our lot to serve their delicious food. Each truck donates a portion of the proceeds to Meal on Wheels. A huge thank you to each local food truck vendor for supporting Meals on Wheels and believing hunger is unacceptable! Without them, this event would not be a reality each year, and due to their help, this event was nationally recognized in the past which lead to a $25,000 award to Meals on Wheels.
For the 6th year in a row, we have teamed up with one of our favorite local charities, The San Diego Humane Society, to host our Annual Share the love Pet adoption event to help some of the pups there find their way into a loving new home. This event has always been a great way for us to get to know our local families and their pups as well by offering free micro-chipping, names tags, and holiday photos. We sincerely love helping this local charity. Being able to aid in the local community helping as well has been an incredible blessing to us here at Kearny Mesa Subaru. See, here at Kearny Mesa Subaru, we have a passion for helping this great charity. We even work monthly with them to sponsor and promote one dog located there. We continue to sponsor each dog until they are finally adopted. So much fun to get to know these dogs. We realize not everyone can provide a home for a sheltered dog but even if you can’t give a dog a good home right now, there are other ways you can help. You can volunteer at the shelter, or you can donate funds to help aid in caring for these pups. However, if you are looking to give a dog a good home this holiday season, please check with the San Diego Humane Society before going anywhere else. They have pups of all ages and sizes. Each Month Kearny Mesa Subaru partners with the San Diego Humane society to sponsor a dog that is in need of a good home and family to love. We continue to sponsor and publicize each dog on our social media sites and webpages, as well as, in our showroom until they are adopted. We are passionate about helping these doggies find the perfect companion(s) to spend their lives with. We just love it when they come in for their photo shoot here at the dealership, as it gives us the chance to interact with each of the dogs. This month we would like to introduce you to Lacy who has been at the Humane Society now for a whopping 600 days. She is a bit shy at first but if you give her the time to warm up to you, she brightens right up. She knows a long list of tricks and loves a walk around Balboa Park. Michael Levinsky is a local San Diego resident and business owner of Paws for a Cause. Michael has been battling cancer for several years now being diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL). His business connects cancer patients, like himself, to with those who are looking to help and pay to have their dogs walked. Michael learned during treatment that dogs do not transmit germs in the same way humans do, nor do most diseases cross between species. So, given this fact mixed with his entrepreneur past, this gave Michael a wonderful idea to start a business that would benefit cancer patients, like himself, to get out and earn an income to help pay medical expenses. Michael came to a point where he realized he needed a new vehicle. He had been looking into a few models Subaru has to offer and reached out to our General Manager David McCracken. Mr. McCracken jumped at the chance to help Michael. Kearny Mesa Subaru along with Subaru of American felt it was crucial to help Michael get into the Crosstrek he wanted that is so important to his business success. The MEYROW Foundation is dedicated to creating programs that improve the lives of those individuals living with Parkinson's and their caregivers. They are committed to enhancing awareness among the younger population and building a fund to financially aid individuals and families living with Parkinson’s. The ultimate long-term goal is to build a Parkinson’s Wellness Center. On May 19th 2016 MEYROW Foundation held The Play for Parkinson’s 7th annual golf tournament at Madera’s Golf Club in Poway, California. The tournament, held since 2009, brings together like-minded individuals who share the MEYROW vision. Kearny Mesa Subaru is a proud supporter of the MEYROW Foundation's vision and hope that we can help bring awareness to the struggles those who live with Parkinson's face as well as the caretakers and family members of those affected by Parkinson's disease. This was our first opportunity to participate in the national Share the Love campaign and we were so fortunate to have received more than $21,000 in donations from Subaru thanks to their customers and dedicated staff. To showcase our partnership and offer fun activities for their customers, we conducted a holiday adoption event that included adoptions, microchip clinic, and a holiday photo shoot. Thank you to everyone who participated. These opportunities not only help animals in our care, but animals in need all across San Diego County!
When you see a Butterfly many of us stop and admire its beauty. There is something breathtakingly beautiful about them that make you stop to admire it. But, what if we no longer had the chance to gaze upon its beauty? Well, that could become a reality as the population of the Monarch Butterfly has substantially decreased in the past two decades here in Northern America. Subaru as part of our Subaru Loves the Earth initiative for the month of April has teamed up with the National Wildlife Federation to help save the Monarch Butterfly population. We here at Kearny Mesa Subaru jumped at the chance become Butterfly Heroes. We have teamed up with Ms. Stewart's Transitional Kindergarten class at Ocean Beach Elementary to educate our young and their families about the Monarch Butterfly and how they can help save these precious pollinators. Ms. Stewart's class during the month of April learned about the life cycle of the butterfly and have their own habitats to study how a caterpillar turns into a beautiful butterfly. Therefore, her class is more than happy to also become Butterfly Heroes. Ms. Stewart has also offered to take our Certified Wildlife Habitat that we have taken care of to continue to educate her students about how they can help. Here at Kearny Mesa Subaru we take pride in our community and want to help out in any way possible. This is why we are happy to be a part of the Love the Earth E-Waste Recycling program. Here we believe in more than just being a Subaru retailer; we believe in being an active participant in doing what is right for our community and our environment. Not because it is good for business, but because it simply is the right thing to do. Throughout the month of April we are able to collect quite a bit of electronics that will now be recycled at All Green Electronic Recycling center rather than winding up in a landfill. Everything from old television sets to used batteries and energy efficient light bulbs was collected in an attempt to increase awareness and encourage our employees and the local community to recycle their old electronics. Little do people know, even those greeting cards that play music have an electronic circuit board. These electronic circuit boards are e-waste and should not be thrown away in the trash. If you ever question whether you can or cannot recycle certain items, we encourage you to contact any local e-waste recycling center for answers. It is our hope through programs like these we can raise awareness and help give back and improve the community and world in which we live in.
Kearny Mesa Subaru has been hosting an annual adoption event for the last five years! Not only has this partnership found homes for many dogs and kittens, it has brought more awareness about the importance of adoption. Including San Diego Humane Society in various advertising mediums to promote the event reminds the public how many animals are looking for homes. This partnership has expanded to include the Animal Admirer program, where Kearny Mesa Subaru sponsors an animal working various promotional efforts to share the animal's story to help find he/she a loving home.
Sometimes you are fortunate, and sometimes you are INCREDIBLY fortunate. That is how Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego, Inc. (MOWGSD) feels about their relationship with Kearny Mesa Subaru. Every year, during the months of November and December, Subaru America allows customers to give back $250 to 5 nationwide charities as part of their Share the Love Campaign. Dealerships may also select local charities to receive funds from their regional foundation based upon customer selection. This year, the Kearny Mesa Dealership chose MOWGSD as their charity of choice! Customers who wished to keep funds in their local area were allowed to select MOWGSD. This resulted in a check for $11,481 or 3,280 meals for San Diego seniors! For the last four years, Dave McCracken, General Manager/VP, and his team of stellar employees, have given their ALL to help MOWGSD tell the story of need that exists to provide nutritious meals and socialization for seniors in San Diego. They clear their entire front car lot to make room for 10-15 food trucks and the 400-500 patrons who come to vote for their favorite menu. The day is complete with celebrity chefs judging senior-friendly entree selections; quite a gastronomic spectacle covered by the press and TV stations alike. It is amazing that the dealership, one of the largest in the country, puts their philanthropy before the number of cars that could be sold. They are truly committed to making a difference in their community.
Kearny Mesa Subaru embraced Subaru's Share the Love campaign by volunteering with Meals-on-Wheels San Diego. Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego, Inc. is committed to reducing the isolation experienced by so many elderly. Meals are delivered to seniors homes by volunteers. Frequently the volunteer may be the only person the senior sees all day, providing human contact and a safety net, particularly for those seniors living alone. Every year for the last 4 years Kearny Mesa Subaru has been hosting The Annual Subaru Share the Love Food Truck Event, raising thousands of dollars for the local Meals on Wheels chapter. The last three Share the Love Food Truck Events drew large crowds, over 400 people, at Kearny Mesa Subaru and have supported Meals-on-Wheels in raising over $40,000. Kearny Mesa Subaru is committed to volunteering and giving to many local charities throughout San Diego it is our privilege and honor to do so.
